The Future of Tech: Disrupt the Status Quo and Incorporate IoT into Your Product

Event Summary - Hosted by NextChapter.com.hk & Brinc.io

Last Tuesday, an intimate group of entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts gathered at Brinc’s headquarters to hear Nick Ramil share proven strategies on how to pull off a successful crowdfunding campaign.  This Meetup event is part of a series hosted by Next Chapter as part of their HK Crowdfunding Salon for Female Entrepreneurs Meetup group.

Nick is the Head of Validation at Brinc, the world’s first end-to-end IoT platform that supports entrepreneurs looking to unlock the world’s data through connected solutions.

Nick works day in and day out to help Brinc’s startups launch successful crowdfunding campaigns. So far, Nick has a 100% success rate and has raised millions of dollars across multiple hardware projects. Given that only 40% of campaigns on Kickstarter actually reach their funding targets (9% on Indiegogo), Nick’s track-record is outstanding!

He claims that his secret to success is simple. Prepare. Prepare. Prepare!

The biggest mistake startups make is thinking that just because they’ve conceived a product, consumers will automatically flock to it. As a result, they don’t do the grueling and unsexy preparation work required to make their crowdfunding campaigns a success. To put things into perspective, Nick spends up to 8 months doing outreach, setting up interviews with target customers, conducting research and analyzing hard data prior to the campaign launch.

Nick also suggested you consider a product that is “non-disruptive” disruptive technology such as the Pill Drill which helps people take their medicine daily but doesn’t change their habits, only enhances them.  The idea is to build technology into our everyday behaviours, which will also extends the shelf life of the product if it is easy and instinctive to use.

Crowdfunding is an undeniably useful way to acquire marketing clout, funding and early-validation for your product. However, none of these benefits are reaped when a campaign doesn’t reach its funding goals.

For those of you planning to crowdfund for your business, take Nick’s advice to heart. It’s truly all about the preparation.

Prepare. Prepare. Prepare!
